A lot of folks set a goal, or make a New Year’s Resolution that deals with starting a new habit. It doesn’t matter what the habit is most of the time as they all typically have something in common, you have to show up.
One of the goals I set for myself this year is to publish a blog post every day. It’s an ambitious goal, to post 365 days in a row, which would make it the longest streak I’ve ever had by an extremely large margin. It’s not an impossible goal but one that definitely hits the stretch category.
So how am I going to accomplish this feat? Do I have all the topics lined up? Do I have some secret power that will allow me to fill the screen with words day after day?
I don’t have all the answers, but I do know one things, I have to show up.
I have to sit at the keyboard every day, without fail, or I won’t be able to establish this habit and accomplish the goal of a post every day. For those familiar with blogging, yes, I know that I can schedule posts in advance, however, I’m not going to allow myself that out, I have to hit publish every day. (Ok, if life does get in the way and I know that I’ll be unable to publish on a particular day I might use the scheduling feature, but let’s assume life will be kind this year).
So it is with any habit you want to create, you have to show up. It doesn’t matter where you need to be or what you need to do to establish your new habit and accomplish your goal, but you do have to show up.
